WEBINAR: AI Fault Interpretation as a Tool for Understanding Structural Complexity and Reducing Subsurface Uncertainty in a Mature Field: Rio del Rey Basin, Offshore Cameroon
Perenco Case study
Perenco operates and produces oil from a large number of fields across the Rio del Rey Basin, offshore Cameroon. One of the largest and most mature fields in the basin produced first oil in 1979 and some 45 years later is still producing around 400 bbl/d. Despite the maturity of the field there remain subsurface challenges that are not fully understood. This presentation is a case study of recent work, undertaken to apply Geoteric AI to a modern reprocessing of a 3D seismic dataset to help understand and resolve some of the structural complexity of the field.
The presentation will focus on key areas where value has been added to the project through improved technical understanding, including the following examples:
-
Fault trends not previously interpreted help to explain different fluid contacts in neighbouring wells
-
Revised structural interpretation has delineated a field compartment in line with well and production data
-
Revised structural interpretation feeds into an up-dated field model that will drive further infill drilling opportunities to enhance recovery in the field
Along with the demonstrating the technical benefits, there is also a message that the identification of faults through AI has facilitated a more comprehensive and detailed structural seismic interpretation in a short timeframe. The AI technology doesn’t replace the role of a geophysicist but gives them the ability to do more and faster without compromising on the quality of the results.
