Geoteric are delighted to be celebrating one year of climate positive action with Ecologi.
What a difference a year makes! Over the past twelve months, through their partnership with Ecologi, Geoteric have offset over 130 tonnes of CO2 (That's the equivalent of 250,000 miles driven in a car!), supported 18 sustainability projects worldwide and planted 2,500 trees.
Just before World Environment Day on Sunday 5th June 2022, we caught up with Sharon Hardy, Head of Human Resources at Geoteric who spearheaded the partnership between Geoteric and Ecologi.
What did Geoteric hope to achieve with Ecologi when the partnership was formed, one year ago?
As part of our Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) strategy, we were looking for ways to reduce and offset our carbon footprint. Ecologi offered an interesting way to achieve these goals and engage our teams in this journey.
What climate positive action has Geoteric supported over the past 12 months through its partnership with Ecologi?
We support 2 climate positive projects each month all over the globe, utilising cleaner forms of energy i.e. hydropower, wind and solar power including the first ever wind power project in Honduras. Each project is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and is verified by the Verified Carbon Standard, or the Verified Gold Standard.
What can you tell us about Geoteric forest?
Trees are planted each month to offset our carbon footprint and we track the growth in a virtual Geoteric forest, accessible via the Ecologi platform. Over the last 12 months, we have planted over 2,500 trees across the world. The species, location and date of planting are shown for each tree in the Geoteric forest by clicking on a tree symbol to reveal more information and images.
How do you involve the wider team in Geoteric’s climate positive action with Ecologi?
The infographics available on the Ecologi platform are a great way to inform the team of our impact on a regular basis. I also like the interactive elements such as visual information in the Geoteric forest.
We established a dedicated Teams channel to share ESG information including photographs of carbon reduction and climate positive projects, growth in the Geoteric forest and milestones celebrated by gamification badges.
We have also used the Geoteric forest to mark special events by planting additional trees which are named in recognition of achievements e.g., a 20 years’ work anniversary or to celebrate an event e.g. Great Big Green Week.
How do you see Geoteric’s relationship with Ecologi evolving over next 12 months?
I look forward to developing the ways we can use climate positive initiatives, enabled by Ecologi, to celebrate successes in Geoteric.
